Series and thumbnails

The thumbnail and metadata panel shows series in the current study. Thumbnails are the fastest way to retarget a viewport without hunting a long DICOM list.

On a CT with dozens of recon series, scroll the rail until you find the thin lung kernel. On an MR with T1, T2, and FLAIR, pick two series and put them into a two-by-two using click or drag depending on your build.

What a series card tells you

Cards show description, modality, date or time, and image count as DICOM and the parser allow. Hover can reveal extra metadata such as series number, body part, or scan options. Use that for a quick QC pass on technologist naming before you spend time at full resolution. Wrong laterality in a description is cheaper to catch here than after a long read.

Assigning a series

Click a thumbnail to assign it to the active viewport, or drag to a specific cell when the UI supports it. Replacing a series restarts the stack index at a sensible default. You may need to re-enable sync afterward for fair comparison. A common pattern loads current on the left, prior on the right, and a thicker localizer in a third small pane for orientation when the layout has three cells.

Performance

Very large studies may lazy-load thumbnails. If a tile is blank for a moment, wait for decode rather than double-assigning the series. After assignment, scroll in the right pane and only measure once the expected series is active.
