Study lifecycle

This page is Horizon. Lite lists studies you can open. It does not run these statuses.

Every Horizon study follows the same path. It arrives, gets verified, gets read, and ends when the report is finalized. Button labels can change between deployments. The stages do not.

Arrival

Imaging is sent from a scanner, gateway, or PACS into your organization’s ingest point. Xenrad routes the study to a site, matches or creates a patient record from the DICOM data, and puts the study on the worklist. Success looks simple: the study shows up. Silence is an admin problem, not something you fix inside Prism.

The stages you will see

New means the study is here and still needs triage. Someone should confirm demographics and routing before a radiologist spends time on it.

Ready means the study is clear to read. The radiologist can open Prism.

Reporting means a draft is open.

Finalized means the report is locked and the study is finished for normal clinical flow.

You move studies forward with actions that match those stages. The useful habit is knowing whether the study is still waiting, ready to read, being written, or done.

What you do at each stage

Triage is for New studies. Check the patient, accession, and that the study belongs on this site. Fix what you can. Hand it on when it is clean.

Reading starts when the study is Ready. Open Prism, review images, measure if your practice needs it. Horizon keeps measurements as you work and stores a durable copy after you pause. You do not need a special export for ordinary reading.

Reporting is the draft. Write the sections your template expects. When the report is complete, finalize it. Finalized studies stop accepting ordinary edits so the record stays stable.

When something feels stuck

If the study never appears, ingest failed or routing is wrong. If it appears but demographics are wrong, fix the patient before reading. If Prism will not load images, your session may have expired. Return to the app, sign in, and open the study again. If you cannot finalize, you may lack permission or the draft may still be incomplete.
